McMaster Anthropology Society (MAS)

The MAS is a recognized and funded club at McMaster University with the mission to provide anthropology students with opportunities to engage with the anthropological community.

ASK! Anthropology Skills and Knowledge

ASK! Is a mentor program run by the department's graduate students who volunteer their time to help answer any questions undergraduate students may have about their academic experience. Graduate students from all fields of anthropology are available to provide information to undergrads on a range of topics from volunteering, to summer jobs, how to get into graduate school, and much more.

Experiential Education

All Social Science students have the opportunity to work with staff in the office of Experiential Education to apply for funds and programs that will provide learning experiences outside of the classroom. Anthropology students have been awarded Student Experience Grants to fund independent research and conference travel. Other students have completed internships through Experiential Education by working in anthropology related fields such as professional archaeology, museology, government, and education.

Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA)

Undergraduate Student Research Awards are intended to support research partnerships between faculty members and undergraduate students. The Awards provide undergraduate students an opportunity to receive $6000 to cover 15 weeks of full-time research-based activity over the summer.

The Graduate Workshop

The Graduate Workshop is a student-focused bi-weekly workshop that is defined for and by graduate students along with the faculty facilitator. It is twinned with the departmental visiting speakers’ series on alternate weeks, so that each week (Tuesdays at 3:30) there is a collective forum for intellectual discussion outside of specific course-work.

My Grad Skills

McMaster University subscribes to My Grad Skills, along with Queen's University, University of Guelph, University of Ottawa, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, and Western University. Using your university email account, graduate students can log in to view 18 short, self-paced training units on topics such as how to write a resume, how to conduct a job search, the art of entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, and academic and professional communications.
