Meet our Supervisors

Meet our Supervisors
The Department of Health, Aging and Society is home to many faculty members available to supervise graduate students in a variety of specializations. To connect with prospective supervisors, please contact the Graduate Administrative Assistant Colleen Brown.
ENVIRONMENTS AND INEQUALITIES
We are interested in how and why different people and groups in different places experience different levels of health and wellbeing. Attention is paid to unpacking the mechanisms and processes which determine these inequalities and the ways in which people cope with them. Both urban and rural environments are considered in our scholarship.

SYSTEMS, SERVICES AND POLICY
We are interested in how public health, healthcare and social care are produced and consumed in the twenty-first century, ranging from the resource pressures, ideologies and ideas that motivate at a macro level, to the experiences of clients and the public at a micro level. Attention is paid to both formal and informal sectors.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
We are interested in how people belonging to different demographic, economic, social and cultural groups are excluded or marginalized in terms of their health and wellbeing. This might be according to their gender, age, race, ethnicity, income or sexuality. Our aim is to produce research that can help lead to greater awareness.

Research in Health, Aging & Society
Our faculty bring a critical perspective to our research.
We give voice to people and subjects that are marginalized, involve communities as partners in research, draw on social theory to inform studies and are open to using all kinds of academic methodologies.
SOCIAL-CULTURAL DIMENSIONS OF HEALTH AND/OR AGING
We believe that aging and health are not simply biological phenomenon. Not only are aging and health heavily influenced by social and cultural phenomenon and trends, they are experienced differently by different social and cultural groups, and are constructed and represented differently according to dominant societal, social, and cultural norms.
